Flexjet Aircraft - Flexjet is in the process of completing the largest deployment of GE Aviation's wireless flight data management system to date across a fleet of 150 corporate jets. The investment in avionics and service upgrades is designed to improve the Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) program for one of the world's largest partially owned service providers.
As part of a new partnership with GE Aviation, Flexjet is installing new Quick Access Recorders (QARs) and mobile data services designed to improve flight data tracking and eliminate potential threats to operational flight safety. QAR equipment and mobile data services are provided by Avionica, a Miami, Florida-based avionics manufacturer that formed a joint venture with GE Aviation in July 2018.

FOQA is a method used by business and commercial aircraft operators to regularly collect and analyze aircraft data to improve the safety and efficiency of their flight operations, air traffic control procedures and aircraft maintenance programs. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) first amended Annex 6 in 2008 to introduce new requirements and recommendations related to the implementation of safety management systems that included the FOQA guidelines.

The FAA and other civil aviation regulators and air navigation service providers use FOQA data to monitor regional trends in flight activity and destination areas that pose potential operational risks.
"We were able to customize the QAR firmware to include Flexjet-specific flight events by using approximately 4.5 million data points collected in every wireless transmission the equipment sends immediately after each flight," said Todd Engush, Flexjet's Chief Safety Officer. in a statement regarding the new partnership.
Flexjet has also established a new team of data analysts, trained by GE Aviation, who will perform real-time analysis of flight data immediately after each flight. The results of their analysis will provide Flexjet with insights into optimizing future safety protocols, pilot training and maintenance programs.
"The comprehensive data we can collect in an instant allows us to ensure safer operation of our fleet with real-time flight data monitoring to immediately respond to any potential in-flight safety issues," Angush said.
